WE ONLY USE NATURALLY TANNED VEGETABLE LEATHER
Our leather is vegetable-tanned and chrome free. This method is the most ethical way to tan leather; as opposed to the widely used chrome tanned leather which uses high levels of toxins and chemicals. Tanning leather in this manner is time consuming and requires a lot of skill. As such, it is a more expensive leather. During the tanning process, the leather is placed in large drums that contain a range of natural tanning ingredients such as wood bark, vegetable extracts and flowers.
Eli’s Boots are the world’s first makers of baby moccasins using camel leather. Camel hide has about 10 times more fibres in its construction than cow hide. This makes it a lot stronger despite it being very soft and supple. It is three times softer than a normal calf’s skin.
Described as "the ships of the desert", camels were an essential part of the Bedouins life and tradition. They were and still are a vital means of transportation, and source of food, protection and clothing. The camel's lifespan is often described as one of God's mercies, and can extend up to 40 years.
Our camel leather is sourced from a tannery which is world renowned for its world class tanned camel leather. The tannery utilises the most advanced environmentally friendly technologies and are certified chrome free, toxic free and vegetable tanned. Unlike other leather tanneries that use synthetic oils to achieve their required softness, our tannery uses natural oils derived from vegetable extracts. The result is 100 per cent unique bio-degradable leather.
Our leathers take up to 10 weeks to finalise, and require a lot of craftsmanship, patience and respect. We are proud of our leather’s cultural heritage and have great deal of respect for this most noble material.
